We’ve recently discovered Facebook’s Marketplace. It’s a fairly new concept for Facebook, but it works like any e-commerce platform where it allows Facebook users to sell items and market it to the vast network of social media. Anyone who has a Facebook account and who may be looking for what you are selling will be able to see your post. It also allows you to test what internet marketing strategy will work for your target audience.

The platform is not exactly fool-proof for now, but it’s a good place to start your online business, build up your internet marketing strategy, and test the market for the products you want to sell.

Sign up for a Facebook account

Practically every person in America has a Facebook account. Even our grandparents have accounts on Facebook, though mostly controlled by us. If you don’t want to use your personal account to post the items on Marketplace, you can create a separate account for your “business” and start posting using that account. You can choose whether to sign up for a personal profile or a Facebook page, which would be visible to the public.

Take photos of the items you’re going to sell

Remember that one of the things that will make customers notice the items you are selling is the quality of the photos. Make sure that the photos are well-lit and that the customers can clearly see the details of the products. If it is a stroller for a baby, for example, you have to show photos of the basket at the bottom, the harness, etc. The features of the stroller have to be highlighted through the photos and you have to upload these on Marketplace.

Post them on Marketplace

The next thing you will have to do and the most important, of course, is to post the items on Marketplace. There are four categories that you would have to choose from: items for sale, vehicles for sale, housing for rent/sale, and jobs. If you are posting an item, Facebook would ask for the name of the product, the price, the category (home and garden, entertainment, clothing and accessories, family, electronics, hobbies, and classifieds), your location, the description, and if you’re offering to ship the item.

Share it to your network

Facebook would, of course, allow you to post the items on your own profile page. This means sharing the post with your personal network. This is the best way to get the word out that you are selling a particular item. Your friends and families can also share the same post to their network, so more people will see the item.
